Hannaton White Suffolks

The stud was registered in 2018 when the opportunity came up to purchase 60 cast for age stud ewes from Duenclin White Suffolk Stud. A well renowned stud that had been selling up to 200 rams locally until 2015 when they relocated to Karoonda in SA. These ewes were joined to three top Detpa Grove sires through AI in 2018 along with the purchase of a stud sire.  In September 2018 more ewes were purchased from leading studs Anden and Detpa Grove.  We also purchased Anden 170185 – an excellent growth and muscle sire – who was part of Andens runner up White Suffolk & Interbreed Lamb Production Class in Export at the 2018 Royal Adelaide Show. In 2019 we purchased Detpa Grove stud ewes scanned in lamb and two stud sires at their on property auction pictured below.

In 2020 we made the significant investment in Purchasing 51 ewes from the Ramsay Park Stud dispersal in SA.  A very well renowned stud and a fantastic opportunity for us to expand our stud with some very high indexing and visually appealing ewes.

We also purchased a new stud sire Somerset 190001 from the Elite White Suffolk Sale in Bendigo for $8,750. A great meaty shape and bare points backed up with fantastic figures we intend on using him heavily in the stud over our top ewes.

The stud has simple breeding objectives

  • High Growth Rates – selecting for high weaning and post weaning weights

  • High Carcass Yield – Targeting high eye muscle depth

  • Bare Heads and Points – producing easy care lambs and ideal rams to join to merino ewes

  • Sound Structure and Constitution - Giving longevity for rams
